Ocean
As above, so below, Life thrives still
Let the ocean hold its breath amidst rising waves
Tension of the surface with crests and troughs
Fins grow weary amidst the dimming twilight
Submerge fully and break free of the chaos
And yet there thrive the whale kings of old
There the glory of sunsets as unseen miracles,
As above, so below, Life thrives still
Colder, and yet the light is born from life within
“Love, a language” is compact yet profound meditation on one of the humanity’s most universal experiences. Love is framed as a language, something that is both learned and instinctive, before tracing its many forms through vivid, contrasting imagery. The poem moves through three distinct registers: mother, lover, spiritual. The “pearl” and “sand” capture love’s unequal distribution among seekers with elegant simplicity, grounding an abstract theme in the tangible world. Love is as deeply personal as universally human.
